Township dog show!

On Sunday i had a really awesome day - Katelyn invited me to be a volunteer at a township dog day... basically they invite a township to bring all their dogs and we inoculate them, deworm them, deflea them, teach them good dog care etc... it was really amazing!!!
The only thing is we had to leave early as this was in howic - an hour or so away. I woke up at 6am (earlier than i do for work :( and met Katelyn at her place and we went from there!! It was freezing and the weather said it would be really cold in howic too... so i had to dress warm!!!

Mike on the other hand gave me a very sleepy goodbye kiss and rolled over to carry on sleeping... and i am sorry to say the pups didn't even walk me out!!

I don't know if you can see in this pic but there was snow on the mountains... which made it a very chilly day!!

This event was sponsored by Hills dog food... they really do seem to do amazing things for animals!

we promptly signed in and signed out indemnity forms (in case we get bitten - eesh) and i got my "official" name tag!!

We also get really groovy hills t-shirts which i have vowed to wear to puppy training...

As everyone came in they were given an collar and lead for their dogs - in the townships none of the dogs wear leads or collars!!

Then they came to register - they pay R5 per dog which is awesome cause if you pay for something you value it more!!

Katelyn dewormed the pups cause she is a qualified veterinary nurse... i on the other hand kind of just hung around and watched... there were so many volunteers it was awesome!!

Eventually i got a job - a VERY IMPORTANT one!!!

Still no? I had to put a sticker on the last people name tags as they finished at the last station ensuring they were at every station and they pups were sorted out!!

This was a group of boys that have been training their pups with the help of a trainer - it was awesome! They were so proud to be showing off in front of everyone!!

After all the formalities of make sure all the doggies were looked after they had a little dog show where everyone entered and could win dog food and little prizes!! They had categories like "best handler" "best looked after pup" etc...
This pup won BEST OF SHOW meaning he won over all.... it was awesome - and he went straight into his newly won house... like he know this was now his home!!

Shame by the end of the day the pups were exhausted by all the excitement and some of them just could not stay awake! How cute is this little one!!
